Atanas Hranov was born in1961 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In 1980 he graduated the High School of Art in Kotel. He studied Wood-carving in Prof. Anton Donchev's class and in 1987 he graduated the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia.
Hranov's work ranges from painting to wood-sculpture. He has 25 solo exhibitions and more than 50 collective exhibitions in Bulgaria, Luxemburg, Holland, Greece, Germany, Belgium, ect. He has won the Annual Prize for painting of the city of Plovdiv in 1991 and the Annual Prize for painting of Djakov Gallery in Plovdiv, 2001.
