GREDDY ASSA

Some sentences on a long trip through Greddy Assa Iceland Utopia by George Luks at the opening of the exhibition:

{ The nature of Iceland, the rough nature in Iceland, grinds the stones, shaking branches, lashes the faces of its residents.

It leaves traces. Formed, changed aligns. Faces like stone. Hair like savage grass. Volcanoes sprew ashes, geysers boil water and the plane pulls a lonely lane in the sky.

Among them, part of the occurence, moves the artist.
Greddy Assa penetrates the hard shell,
makes the coloured substrate visible.

With a sensitivity for the gentle sounds.
The words between the lines.
The golden filaments in the fur of the sheep.

You think you can feel that behind the massive rocks
could emerge the sail of a viking ship or
Jason and the Argonauts chasing the golden fleece.

History and changing nature are fused together.
Memory and current experience are formed by the brush of the artist to genuine new stories.

Iceland could be anywhere. In the streets of New York.
In a bar in Havana. In the African plains.
Wherever, the artist finds the truffle under the bare surface.

What yells me in the paintings of Greddy, is this clarity, this harsh reality, this loneliness, this longing to wander the eye into the distance.

The Norwegian Viking Floki Vilgerdarson gave the island its name. A landscape covered of ice – Iceland.
The Irish monks left behind them books and bells when they escaped from the island.
"It`s oh so quiet" sings Bjork, and the title of the song could be the topic of a painting of Greddy.

The gentle and the savage form a unit in the paintings of the artist.
Greddy caresses the surface of the canvas with a brush and the magic becomes reality and the reality - magic.

Those are quiet images, impressions, memories, utopia. They require intensive listening to unfold their full bouquet.

Enjoy it – cheers! Skal! }
